Swerve Module Cover Design
Project type
CAD Project
Date
2025
Manufactured by General Atomic Government Facility
- 6.75” x 6.75” x 1.35”
- Impact resistant over repeated use and easily removable for maintenance
- Designed using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), a 3D printing technology that uses a laser to fuse powdered materials into solid objects
- Extrusions were incorporated into the component design to enable a press-fit assembly prior to the additions of bolts for security. A tolerance of .003” has been made to ensure precise alignment and secure fitting.
- The ‘dome’ component features an outer radius of 4.00 inches and an inner radius of 3.75 inches, providing sufficient clearance for the module to navigate uneven terrain up to 1.25 inches in height while protecting it from potential damage.
- FDM parts using PLA or other plastics tend to not be strong enough and degrade harshly over repeated use. Onyx prints are more impact resistant but are not rigid enough to properly protect the module and maintain optimal usage.
